A few years ago, I just moved into a new neighborhood and still excited at just buying my new car, I was so keen to make friends with all my new neighbors and there was a lady in particular called Tope who seriously caught my interest as a man, little did I know that she would become a life saver for me one day
Few weeks into my stay in my new neighborhood, I found myself in a bit of a jam. It was one of those days where everything seemed to go wrong, and to top it off, the power went out just when I was about to settle in for a cozy evening at home.
With a sigh, I realized the generator needed fuel, and fast. So, I grabbed my jerrycan and headed out to the car, thinking I could siphon some gas to power the generator. But as luck would have it, I accidentally got a mouthful of petrol, and let me tell you, it felt like I'd swallowed fire.
Coughing and spluttering, I stumbled away from the car, desperate for relief. That's when my neighbor Tope who had been observing me without me noticing, urgently handed me a manual hand fuel pump that she had as one of her everyday household hack. It was a simple contraption, nothing fancy, just a pump with a hose attached.
With no other options in sight, I decided to give it a try. I grabbed the pump and started working it, pumping away like my life depended on it—which, in that moment, it kind of did. It took some effort, but slowly, fuel began to flow from the car's tank into my jerrycan.
As I watched the fuel fill the canister, a sense of relief washed over me. I had found a solution to my problem, thanks to that humble hand pump. From that day forward, I made sure to get mine and keep it for whenever I needed to move fuel from my car to the generator.
That manual pump may not have been the fanciest tool in the shed, but it was a lifesaver when I needed it most. And for that, I was truly grateful.
